Isle of Procida : Sancio Cattolico  (page 3 of 3)
All the harbour's wharf is limited by a uniform front of houses, built starting from the 17th century with the peculiar popular style in Procida, with houses leant each other and narrow entries on the street for a better defence, and loggia on upper floors. Houses only differentiate themselves for the painting colours and the only elements that stand out from the common front are Casa Catena and other two noble palaces on the tourist port, named in an old book as "Mirra" and "Schiazzano", which have refined stone portal, windows and balconies with stucco cornices and fillets on the edges.

Sancio Cattolico

The building front is broken only in two points, corresponding to the two access roads to other places in the island: the former is Via Vittorio Emanuele, which starts in front of the Church and follows the course of the "Canale" (Canal, the ancient riverbed where rainy waters flowed down to the sea), then turning in direction of the Terra Murata where is the Church of San Leonardo, which belongs to the 18th century. The latter is Via Libertà (Freedom Road), built in 1950 during the expansion towards the centre of the island and where they run the buses to the Chiaiolella. Near the entrance to Via LibertÓ there is a wooden Crucifix from 1845, raised upon a stone base paneled with majolica and covered with a weathered roof.
